My name is Maty Patino Trejo and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist at Gemstone Wellness. I specialize in anxiety, stress, and ADHD, and I also enjoy helping people navigate life transitions. I offer therapy in both English and Spanish and I love working with individuals, couples, and families equally.
I earned my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University and received my Bachelors in Psychology with a concentration in Behavioral Neuroscience from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Your therapy sessions with me will be warm, direct, and down-to-earth. Strong therapeutic relationships are built through trust and compassion, and your unique life experiences and goals are always honored.
My relationships are rooted in connection. Sometimes that means talking about food spots, coffee or matcha spots, concerts, pets, or the little things that make us who we are. We are both human, and feeling comfortable and connected in therapy matters.
I use multiple approaches that help you better understand yourself, improve relationships, and build more useful coping strategies. My work draws from approaches that explore emotional patterns, family dynamics, the mind-body connection, and practical tools to help you navigate stress, communication, self-esteem, and life transitions.
In our work together, we may focus on strengthening emotional awareness, improving communication and coping skills, and growing secure and meaningful relationships. I aim to create an environment where you feel empowered to explore challenges, process emotions, and make positive change in your life.
There is no expectation to have everything figured out before coming in. I promise not to pretend to know what you’re going through without first getting to know and understand you. Clients often appreciate that I am direct, while also supportive and compassionate.
Your feedback about what is or is not working in session is always encouraged and valued! If it works for you, I will give you practical tools and exercises to take home to support your growth outside of therapy, enabling you to feel confident navigating life on your own.
I believe therapy does not need to last forever. If it’s your goal, I will help you “graduate” from therapy with the insight, tools, and confidence to handle life more independently.
Life is hard. Therapy can be hard too. You do not have to figure everything out alone. I am here to support you, challenge you, reflect with you, process with you, and help guide you toward the life you want for yourself. The hope is that you leave sessions feeling understood, supported, and like your brain just got a hug!
