Hi, I’m Jane Sussman, a Licensed Social Worker at Gemstone Wellness. I work with adults navigating depression, anxiety, grief, chronic illness, relationships and all the messy, wonderful stuff that comes with sex and intimacy.
In sex therapy and couples work, I help people explore desire, arousal, communication, and connection in a space that’s shame-free, judgment-free, and peppered with the occasional bad joke when the moment calls for it. Whether you’re struggling with mismatched libido, past sexual trauma, or just want to feel closer to your partner without awkward small talk, I’ll help create a space where you feel heard, understood, and maybe even a little curious about yourself in new ways.
A central part of my practice is integrating sexual health into therapy in a way that feels natural, respectful, and approachable. Sexual health is health, full stop. It deserves the same attention and care we give our emotional and physical well-being. And yes that means no side-eyes, no blushes, no awkward coughing into the napkin. I’m here to make conversations about sex, intimacy, and relationships feel safe and shame-free.
Mental health isn’t just my job but my passion, and I’ve walked some of the same paths my clients are on. Growing up with a close family member who struggled with Depression and Bipolar Disorder gave me a front-row seat to what mental illness really looks like and how it ripples through everyone who loves that person. Losing that same family member to suicide taught me the depth of grief in a way no textbook ever could. I also live with a chronic illness, so I know how it can shape identity, relationships, and daily life.
I’ve spent years working in community mental health settings, where sexual health concerns were a regular and important part of care. This has included supporting survivors of sexual abuse, working with people exploring sexual identity, helping couples navigate relationship challenges, and providing education around safe sex and intimacy.
I earned my Master’s in Social Work and my Licensed Social Worker credential from the University of Illinois Chicago, and later completed my certificate in Sex Therapy through the University of Michigan. I am currently in the process of becoming AASECT certified.
Outside the therapy room, I love long walks, scouting out new coffee shops, and hanging out with my dog, Ramona, who is undeniably cuter than me but I don’t hold it against her. Recently, I started cold plunging (which is exactly as terrifying as it sounds) and baking, which is exactly as comforting as it sounds! I approach life with humor, curiosity, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting.
I believe the power of being truly listened to is enormous, and I aim to offer that kind of presence in every session. Humor has a permanent seat at my therapy table, because healing doesn’t have to happen in silence or seriousness all the time.
You are never alone. It would be an honor to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore what’s hard, feel understood, and move toward becoming your most magnetic, authentic self.
“I will always consider my clients’ identities and multifaceted stories when helping them to fulfill their goals. It is my privilege to meet individuals right where they’re at and co-create individualized treatment.”
